“Leilani’s coaching is really rewarding. I came away positively impacted and with a deeper alignment of my career and relationships with meaningful life goals. Hew powerful strengths-based approach takes you on a creative and colourful journey to provoke new thinking and ideas that may have been lying dormant for some time and ready to come to the surface. Thank you, Leilani, for being my coach. I have gained a new understanding of self which is more kinder, creative and purpose driven”. ~ Nui, Aotearoa / NZ
For as long as I can remember the idea of Tuākana | Teina has been part of my lived experience – to give back through coaching, mentoring and teaching gives me great joy. My earliest memory of mentoring was being assigned (at 8 years told) to be a reading buddy for a new entrant, Laura. I remember those sessions with warmth in my heart and you can imagine how happy I felt, years later, when in my twenties Laura contacted me to say she remembered reading with me and how impactful the experience had been on her development.
Later, during my University years, I remember equally moving experiences working as a MATES mentor at Kelston Girls High School, and as a Tuākana mentor for undergraduate history students. It was during these years that I came across some incredible peers, who were also working at mentors, many of whom have gone on to leadership roles in government, the arts and private sectors.
It’s perhaps then not surprising that in my later years, my commitment to the value of coaching and mentoring has remained steadfast and contributed to my decision to train as an accredited as a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach. When I was working as a manager, I found the CliftonStrengths tool to be incredibly helpful and as a Coach I use it as a framework for working one-on-one with individuals who want to better understand their strengths and commit to making some leadership shifts and changes in their life.
Over recent years I’ve worked with countless individuals one-on-one (in person and via zoom) to identify their strengths, understand the changes they want to make, and help them achieve some big shifts over a period of six months. If you’re interesting working with me as a coach please get in touch by sending me an email: leilanitamu@gmail.com. I only coach a small number of people each year so please do reach out sooner rather than later if you’re interested so I can let you know what my availability is over coming months.
“I loved our sessions, from our first meet and greet session, getting to know each other, allowing me to feel safe to share confidentially. Then discussing and gaining more insight into my strengths and where I could direct that in my current leadership, and then onto future endeavours. Then exercises in the two or three sessions where we mapped out everything. The sessions were not only often a relief but also gave clarity and direction.” Cheryl, Aotearoa / NZ
