miro moana

As an author who has spent two decades squeezing my writing career into tiny pockets of free time, I know how challenging it can be to sustain an effective creative writing practice. As a parent and working professional I also know how difficult it can be to access creative writing courses and spaces that are accessible and culturally responsive to the needs and interests of Moana Pacific peoples. That’s why I created Miro Moana.

Miro Moana is an online creative writing course that I deliver three times a year in nine-week blocks. The course is open to writers at all levels of their practice (beginners are welcome) and has a focus on Pacific literature.

Each week, participants take part in a 1.5 hour online workshop during the evening where they get to:

  • learn about the work of a Pacific poet (a different poet is featured each week);
  • take part in facilitated creative writing / poetry exercises.

The course is designed to be fun and low pressure (no prep work is required beforehand) and are costed affordably.

Leilani is a fabulous teacher and facilitator. Her gentle nature creates space for people to engage wholly with the course material. I’ve grown a love for reading, but for the first time, I enjoyed the process of crafting my own pieces of writing. For someone who struggles with dyslexia and ADD, this is a huge win. I strongly recommend this course for anyone who loves the arts and is looking to grow their thinking. 10/10 would recommend. ~ Raewyn, Aotearoa/NZ
